Safety & braking

Astra is available with stability control without having to buy the fanciest, most expensive model.

Fuel economy

The Astra with automatic transmission is getting 24 in town and 33 on the road. Without air conditioning on, it is getting 25 in town and 34 on the road.

Quietness

It is possible to have a more relaxed ride than I am used to.

Ride smoothness

We were after a Matrix or Vibe, but the suspensions were too sporty (i,e nauseating.) The Astra is much better for anyone with a tendency to motion sickness.

Cargo capacity

We wanted a hatchback, and there are not that many around.

Controls and instruments

The Astra controls do not feel intuitive. At first, a person spends way too much time in the book.
