Why the 2005 Saturn ION?

Exterior styling

I loved the way that this car looked. It said sporty to me, but I still paid 4dr car insurance. The paint was excellent, and the body panels were fiberglass, so I didn't have to worry about dents and dings. However, scratches showed up often, and we're also often deep.

Interior styling

The interior was my least favorite thing about this car. It was cheep and plastic. The seats were quite possibly the MOST uncomfortable thing I have ever sat in. Also I'm a big guy, but not big enough to bend a seat, and the metal tubing in the seat bent, often. Also the foam gave away, and I was lucky the material didn't tear.

Powertrain performance

The engine had decent power, and the car would pull ok considering it was an automatic. That being said in 2005 they switched to a more reliable 4 speed automatic, and I'm grateful that is the year I bought.

Quietness

This car was a definite rattle trap.

Reliability & durability

Way too many recalls in far too little an amount of time. Also too little too late.

Why Not the 2005 Saturn ION?

Brand reputation & image

With all of the recalls GMs image is shot in my mind. Especially coupled wih thier delay in issuing the recalls as well as the fact that the reason I no-longer own this car is because it caught fire going down the road and completely burned up.

Conclusion

For the money and miles it was worth the purchase. But I am unsure I will own another GM again.
