Subaru Impreza / Outback Sport Fuel Economy: Pros
Year Body/Powertrain Comment
2013 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD It takes a while for the engine & drivetrain to break in, but when they do you will start to see some very impressive numbers on the ODO. I'm at ~2600 miles right now and averaging 29-30 mpg between 50% open freeway cruising, 25% freeway traffic, 25% city driving.
2013 4dr Sedan 148-hp 2.0L H4 5-sp manual AWD Wow, this is what I said after 2 days with the vehicle, winter driving, and its cold winter here. I averaged 7.6 l/100km, mixed city and highway driving, at -20 celsius, through snow most time of these 2 days. Very impressive for awd vehicle!
2012 4dr Sedan 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD Got 36 MPG right out of the dealer. Have gotten up to 39 MPG with cruise
2012 4dr Sedan 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD Oustanding fuel economy for a all wheel drive...the highest mpg all wheel drive of any manufacturer.
2012 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD Good reported gas mileage.
2012 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 5-sp manual AWD The 2012 Impreza has less zip than my 2004 Impreza yet gets the same gas mileage. I do a mix of city/highway and get 29 mpg. I was getting that in my 2004.
2008 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD much better than expected, considering all wheel drive, and a bit of a heavy foot
2004 4dr Wagon turbocharged 265hp 2.5L H4 5-sp manual AWD I have gotten 28mpg on the highway, which makes it perfect for road trips.
2004 4dr Sedan 165-hp 2.5L H4 5-sp manual AWD 28+ MPG, nothing to complain about.
2004 4dr Wagon 148-hp 2.0L H4 CVT AWD I get 23-26mpg around town, 28-30 highway, which I consider very very good for an AWD car. I get same fuel economy as many non AWD cars.
Subaru Impreza / Outback Sport Fuel Economy: Cons
Year Body/Powertrain Comment
2012 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 CVT AWD The fuel economy isn't as high expected. I get about 28 mpg. I should probably stop driving like I stole it when the kids are out of the car.
2010 4dr Hatch 165-hp 2.5L H4 5-sp manual AWD Really crappy, especially for a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. 22 MPG average. 18 city, 27 highway is what I got.
2010 4dr Sedan turbocharged 265hp 2.5L H4 5-sp manual AWD Not really dislike, I didnt expect civic like mpg. Around town mileage suffers, but on the highways the car cruises quite easily. You can expect ~25mpg on average combined (with no led food). Impressive for the hp and AWD.
2009 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD low fuel economy because of AWD components
2008 4dr Sedan 148-hp 2.0L H4 CVT AWD Pathetic for a compact sedan at <28 mpg highway. The AWD system must be a huge fuel sink.
2008 4dr Hatch turbocharged 305hp 2.5L H4 6-sp manual AWD The WRX did not get the kind of mileage our family was looking for in a new vehicle.
2008 4dr Hatch turbocharged 305hp 2.5L H4 6-sp manual AWD It drinks gas like a collage student on a drinking binge
2008 4dr Hatch 148-hp 2.0L H4 6-sp shiftable CVT AWD For such a small car with NA 170hp engine the economy is rather poor ~24mpg.
2008 4dr Hatch turbocharged 305hp 2.5L H4 6-sp manual AWD The fuel economy was not within our target range for a new car.
2007 4dr Wagon turbocharged 265hp 2.5L H4 5-sp manual AWD For a car of that size, the fuel economy is dismal. I get about 19 in the city, which is where most of my driving is done. That is marginally better than any SUV.
