Why the 2010 Subaru Outback?

Feature availability

AWD important for weekend trips to cabin in mountains. Higher driving position helpful in heavy urban traffic. Hatch convenient for rolling bags and business equipment.

Brand reputation & image

It has engendered fierce owner loyalty. I wanted to understand that better after owning many other vehicles over 4 decades.

Reliability & durability

Too early to tell.

Why Not the 2010 Subaru Outback?

Interior styling

Dashboard materials. Brushed "Aluminum" plastic plus faux "wood" accents are lame. Lack of straight surfaces make mounting a GPS or Sirius radio a challenge. Leather seats are not as comfortable as expected for long drives. Cargo area a bit cramped.

Color choices

No red! Not fond of different color inserts in front bumper.

Ride smoothness

Stock tires are noisy, give impression of a less smooth ride. Jolts transmit loud noises into cabin.
