Why the 2011 Subaru Outback?

Powertrain performance

The only car in its price range with true AWD-60/40 rear/front power split. Prefer the drivetrain to the more fuel efficient 4 cylinder and the hated CVT.

Fuel economy

Compared to the full size p/u I was driving it is fantastic. Getting just over 21 in mostly stop and go suburban driving. Figure it will get better with age. Only had a couple tanks of gas so far. Only one measured.

Cargo capacity

With the V-6 I can tow up to 3000 pounds and carry about 1/2 ton inside the car. Not quite as much as the pickup, but enough, and for far less pain at the pump.

Feature availability

Excellent AWD, excellent cargo capacities and weights. Suitable to carry work stuff, family, bikes, skis, etc. Simply the only car under 40 grand that does what I need it to do.
