2013 Subaru Outback 4dr Wagon
173-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD
128000 mi
US $650
CVT is failing. The dealership recommends replacement of the entire CVT unit, which is estimated to cost over $9,000. We will not do this. This car is effectively finished at 128k miles.
138000 mi
US $5000
CVT and computer replacement. Trans would stop shifting.
85000 mi
US $600
replace CV joints
86000 mi
Transmission Shudder
154000 mi
US $5400
Total CVT Rebuild. Transmission completely shot after 154,00 miles. Yes had to have Outback flat bedded to trans shop for rebuild after local mechanic identified it as a trans problem. Shop gave me 3 options, a partial rebuild for $3400.00, full rebuild for $5400.00 and $7200.00 for new trans plus installation. If this had happened closer to 100,000 miles probably could have qualified for new Subaru CVT warranty. 95% of all mileage done on highway and I had trans fluid changed at 100,000 miles. Engine is still strong so I will keep it a while longer but not happy that Subaru is not being up front about servicing trans more frequently to live up to durability of non CVT transmissions.
