2019 Subaru Crosstrek 4dr Hatch
152-horsepower 2.0L H4 6-speed manual AWD
34000 mi
US $10
Pcv valve replaced to prevent excessive oil consumption
Oil leak under the car, appointments with Subaru here are booked almost 2 months in advance, so went to another garage. Found out Subaru damaged the oil plug washer by giving too much torque during last oil change... Fixed
ALL of the indicator lights were on. Turned out a loose gas cap did it. They reset the code, and all is good now.
24000 mi
US $15
Engine had stuttering issue on idle. Cause was found to be a premature clogged air filter supposed to last 30,000 lasted 24,000 could have been caused by high pollen count this year.
72000 mi
US $1000
Throttle body
41000 mi
Engine not idling as smooth as I thought it should. Live data showed high short term fuel trim of 18% and low long term fuel trim of -16%. I cleaned the throttle body and it now idles much smoother. Short term fuel trim is now +/- <1% and long tern is -6%. Ecu was not reset and it runs better, with more get up and go that it ever did.
Factory defect of valve spring cause catastrophic engine failure. Entire engine had to be replaced.
44014 mi
Car experienced catastrophic engine failure in June 2017 due to factory defect. Entire engine was REPLACED. Head gasket installed during repair was faulty, but went unnoticed. Car overheated at full speed due to head gasket failure. Brought to shop in September 2017 to replace head gasket. Car was burning through coolant at an alarming rate and Check Engine light was on. History: factory default caused catastrophic engine failure at <29,000 miles. Engine was REPLACED June of 2017. Head gasket installed during that repair was damaged but not noticed. Car returned to shop September 2017 after head gasket failed. Head gasket replaced again. Started burning through coolant again, came close to overheating. Brought in with suspicion of warped head. Dealership found no fault with head; could not immediately determine source of problem. Replaced all seals in cooling system; repaired oil control valve. Time will tell if this solved the problem.
45900 mi
This car continues to have coolant getting into the engine. After several attempts to fix it, to no avail. The latest trip was for a check engine light, that turned out to be the second time the cam position through a code. Patrick Subaru cleared the code, and it came right back on the next day.
Clutch replaced in addition to the clutch release bearing( because it made sense & the whole thing was apart anyway)
171000 mi

566000 mi

Check engine light came on and code was for 'EGR restriction'. After cleaning the throttle body, EGR tube and EGR valve, I found that the EGR cooler was 90% blocked. I replaced the unit, cleared the code and no codes have recurred.
650000 mi
US $1500
At 650,000 miles I was getting repeated error codes with reduced power. Diagnosis detected burned #3 valve. Decision was made to replace engine with so many miles.
1192000 mi
US $200
Replaced both oxygen sensors after CEL with P0171 code.
Multiple warning lights lit up while driving at 40 mph. "Check Engine," "Hill Start," "Vehicle Dynamics Control" stayed on even after a brief stop and restart. Dealership said bring it it. No lights the next morning. 90 minutes in
Check Engine Light. Code was P0000C. Oil Control Valve replaced. Check engine light reset.
15000 mi
CEL illuminated around 15,000 miles. It was the oil control valve on the other cylinder bank. Valve part # checked against recall and found to be good. Cleaned valve, reset CEL. Code P000A. Oil Control Valve on other cylinder bank. Valve part# not part of a OCV recall. Tech cleaned and reinstalled valve. Reset CEL.
31000 mi
Check engine light came on. Dealer replaced oil control valve under warranty.
20000 mi
Burning coolant, dealer refused to fix. They said that it was caused by a tech putting 2 quarts too much oil 5000 miles prior. Car still smokes and occasionally stalls on startup. Subaru of America is investigating.
26000 mi
Thermostat was bad
28000 mi
Coolant hose began leaking
49000 mi
check engine, traction and cruise control lights on for several days. checked for code. was coming due for oil change - dealer recommended a "flush" and oil change; thought it might be debris in the oil system (or something like that).
32000 mi
US $3
Worth mentioning here, my 2014 Crosstrek with 32k miles on her, seems to consume a little bit of oil. I don't see any leaks or puddles on the ground, the car runs perfectly, but I have to top up the oil every other month. If I do not add oil, the oil light comes one. If I ignore it, eventually I get a CEL and the cruise control will not work until I add oil and the oil light and CEL go off.
Added .5 qt of oil and reprogrammed ECM for oil level detection, then performed complete oil change.
24300 mi
Check engine light and vehicle dynamics control light came on. Cruise control indicator started blinking. Code P0000A found during diagnostics. Replaced R/H Intake OCV for being inoperative. Part number 10921AA230 (Valve AY Oil)
39000 mi
Low oil light came on. Dipstick almost dry. Dealer found oil level 34 oz low. Performed oil change. Performed software update for low oil detection light. CID# EP5L300A. Started oil consumption test. Return after 1200 miles.
39700 mi
Returned for oil consumption as per previous trip in September 2016. Dealer found oil 4 oz low. Added 4 oz and was told consumption is within spec for being driven 1301 miles. Will return for another consumption check at 1200 miles.
43000 mi
Due to ongoing oil consumption issue (see previous repair reports), the short block engine was replaced. At this time, it is too early to tell whether repair was successful. Will need to monitor oil consumption.
47036 mi
Check engine light on. Code P000A. Cam position sensor low response B1 caused by sticking cam sensor. Replaced right intake cam sensor.
Extremely High Oil Consumption (1 Quart over 1200 miles). Had to have the short block replaced, and the heads resurfaced. This is a known issue with these vehicles, and the repairs were covered in full by a class action lawsuit.
Replace short block due to engine oil consumption failure under warranty.
37000 mi
The Check engine light came on. The cause was oil leaking into the A/F(air-fuel) sensor. The front cover of the engine was taken off and resealed to stop the oil leak. The A/F sensor was replaced.
