Why the 2003 Toyota 4Runner?

Handling

This SUV drives more like a sports car, probably due to its XREAS suspension feature.

Ride smoothness

This vehicle is very smooth and takes bumps and potholes very well.

Quietness

This is a very quiet vehicle and you can hold a conversation or listen to the radio without blasting the volume.

Powertrain performance

After 118,000 miles, this 2003 4runner still feels responsive and strong with a powerful V-8 and a good 2wd powertrain.

Cargo capacity

I have towed very heavily loaded trailers and also had the vehicle well loaded with people and cargo without an issue.

Why Not the 2003 Toyota 4Runner?

Reliability & durability

I seemed to have a lemon, with many electrical problems over the 7 years. Door lock actuators broke 8 times (for 4 doors), an AC sensor forced a new compressor, I replaced the AC control panel, I replaced the AC clutch relay and had other such problems.

Materials & workmanship

The failures mentioned above regarding reliability and durability indicate my concerns with Toyota installing some substandard materials. However, the powertrain was the best thing in the vehicle and continues to function well.
