Why the 2011 Toyota Avalon?

Powertrain performance

Very smooth and quiet, surprising get up and go. Gas mileage is just as advertised. Keep your foot out of it and you can go 26 in mixed and edge 30 on the highway. The smoothness is a major achievement in this car. Super serene drive.

Ride smoothness

I find it noticably smoother than my previous Camry. Even after a couple months it still amazes me how smooth and well isolated the ride is. Which is exactly what I wanted for a drive home from work. Totally relaxing as promised.

Quietness

Much quieter than Camry 4 banger. There seems a lot of tire roar over certain surfaces, so this may be the tires fault too. Wind rush kicks in over 85, 65-70 is almost silent. Just what I wanted.

Interior styling

Seems pretty up to date but is not BMW level of excitement. Seats are comfy, dash panel looks modern, no gaps or rattles noticed. Focus is on space, simplicity, and comfort. Not sporty but this is not a sports car. It is a 2011 big comfy car.

Safety & braking

Seems stable at all times and brakes well. Great safety suite. Feels solid and safe and handles well enough to stay / get out of trouble. Very confidant feel.

Why Not the 2011 Toyota Avalon?

Exterior styling

Nothing to dislike but as some have pointed out it is not a BMW. It does not attract attention, but it is not ugly either. I like it for the same reason I like the Camry - quiet and conservative - and likely to look good in 10 years.

Cargo capacity

Nothing.

Audio & nav systems

My version, while a Limited, is an overseas version, so the XM and JBL was deleted. The base stereo is OK but not the best.

Controls and instruments

The controls to the left of the wheel for mirrors, sun shade, gas and trunk etc are hard to see.
