Reviewed: 2002 Toyota Camry

4dr Sedan 157-horsepower 2.4L I4 4-speed automatic FWD

Why the 2002 Toyota Camry?

Fuel economy

Consistently get 25 average mpg. 20 in city and 33 in strictly highway.

Powertrain performance

Torquey engine provides ample power when pushed hard.

Cargo capacity

Large trunk with large glove compartment and center console

Insurance cost

Low insurance rates probably because of the commonality and low price of replacement parts.

Why Not the 2002 Toyota Camry?

Safety & braking

Terribly mushy brake peddle provides no confidence when making sudden stops. Brakes have locked up on more than one occasion causing the car to skid. Rotors have tendency to warp easily causing the steering wheel to shake/vibrate when applying brakes.

Reliability & durability

Cheap and weak parts. At 110,000 miles I have replaced the radiator and alternator neither of which are wear and tear parts that should be needing replacement so soon. In addition the front end of the suspension makes a clunking noise over bumps.

Materials & workmanship

Terrible paint that chips and scratches very easily. Interior panels are not held together very well.

Front seat support & comfort

Front seat bottom is small and does not move very far back causing problems for people of my height. I would like the seat to be able to move back some more.
