Cooling issue ultimately was a full head gasket job, plus repairs to the radiator. There ended up being a gap about 2 millimeters thick between the head and the block. Had to replace the head of one side. Also needed emissions repairs. Emissions system failing to properly work. Suspected issue with catalytic converters. So far we've tried running through several tanks of Shell gas as it has the most detergents in hopes that it would be cleaned out. No luck with that so far. Next step is replacement, that will be done in the next month or so.
138000 mi

US $2000
So we've finally come to the end of a long Odyssey. No pun intended. We ended up taking the vehicle to a new mechanic who removed the entire engine, disassembled it and cleaned it, resealed the whole thing. Reinstalled it and it's running better than it has since we first purchased it. It cost about $2000 dollars, but the work is completely guaranteed and the peace of mind for our family is worth it. Only piece of advice I have, get a second opinion on work done by a mechanic who's not completely up front with you.
