Reliability and Durability of the Toyota Tacoma: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Crew Cab 6ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Good reputation for reliability - most known issues are minor and the 2011 is far enough into the 2nd Gen to have most resolved.
2008 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Toyota has a great reputation for building quality vehicles with low repair rates.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
It always started
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
Toyota makes some of the best I4 engines out there. I wanted an engine and drive train that would be trouble free for years.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
After 10,000 miles, no problems to report so far.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
I have over 31K miles and never been into the dealership
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
To date I have 31K miles on the taco with NO PROBLEMS! It gets excellent fuel economy for a 6,000lb pickup truck.
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
Takes a beating. Uses regular gas. Easy maintainance. 4cyl runs forever.
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
4-speed automatic RWD
Hopefully very few repairs over the next 200K miles vs. a ford ranger.
2007 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
They are top notch according to Consumer reports. I compared all trucks before buying, the Tacoma came in #1.
2006 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
In 3 years, I have never had to take it to the dealer.
2005 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 245-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
The only problem I have with the 2005 Tacoma is that the front mud guards crack and bang on the bottom of the truck while driving. The mud flap problem is common according to other owners and the dealer will not warranty them. Big $$ to replace.
2003 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 190-horsepower 3.4L V6
4-speed automatic RWD
I abuse this car many times and it still runs great
2002 2dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 190-horsepower 3.4L V6
5-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
I had that truck 8 years and had no repairs. Routine maintenance only.

2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
My Tacoma front axe had to be replaced at 15k. Rear differential started to go at 29k, and eventually went out at 34k. Rear leafspring snapped in half at 38k. Toyota told me to kick rocks. transmission actec funky when shifting. and more to the list.
