Reviewed: 2010 Toyota Venza

4dr SUV 182-horsepower 2.7L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2010 Toyota Venza?

Cargo capacity

ample cargo room it could be even better if they would lose that spare tire somewhere (like Ford did in the Taurus wagon)

Reliability & durability

Toyota has a long history of reliability

Price or payments

better bang/buck ratio than Honda, Hyundai, Mazda (no North American brands were considered)

Dealer practices

Excellent local dealer, who is very accomodating and honest

Why Not the 2010 Toyota Venza?

Interior styling

Too much cheap plastic, way too many cupholders (12) which take up valuable storage space, beige upholstery and black carpet? - somebody was colour blind.

Driving position & visibility

driving position is good, but the rear visibility is horrible or non-existent. After a few near-misses, I installed stick-on convex exterior mirrors - it helps somewhat

Powertrain performance

The 4-cylinder engine gets an asthma attack going uphill and the transmission hyperventilates. I wish I had gotten the 6-cyl. engine.
