Why the 2003 Volkswagen Passat?

Powertrain performance

Relatively low horsepower for a V6 engine, but it has gobs of torque. Excellent for pulling the wagon and towing; comfortable for stop-and-go. Merging on the highway is a breeze, especially impressive for such a heavy car. Quiet, smooth, refined.

Ride smoothness

German suspension tuning is great for ride comfort; feels solid and balanced on all types of road surfaces, but most impressively, absorbs rough roads as if they were nothing.

Driving position & visibility

Upright position is comfortable and promotes good posture. Relatively low beltline means great visibility from windows and windshield. Power adjustable front seats means comfort for everyone.

Quietness

Very quiet in suburbs or the highway, made even quieter by the absorbant suspension. Excellent if you are an audiophile.

Why Not the 2003 Volkswagen Passat?

Fuel economy

Averaging 21mpg in suburban/highway driving for a long time... not so great. A high-torque engine and heavy chassis requires lots of gallons of premium fuel.
