Rear door handles tore out. As a mechanical engineer, I could observe that the steel appeared to fail due to mechanical fatigue aggravated by rust. This is a very poor design which puts the entire load of the handle on a thin strip of body thickness steel which flexes each time the door handle is used. With time, fine surface cracks occur and rust will readily attack the metal to weaken it further. Made reinforcing bars and reinstalled handles. |
