Why the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Ride smoothness

The ride is firm but smooth, which is how I like a vehicle. Really comfortable for long drives and short ones around curves and potholes where I live. So much quieter than my last car.

Handling

A lot of fun for an SUV. Feels confident on the road. Needed AWD with some clearance, so this was about the best handling in its class short of jumping up to an Acura RDX or something more expensive.

Interior styling

Has impressed many friends, even with my leatherette interior. Looks like a more expensive car. Back seats have more foot and leg room than most would expect. Cargo area a little small, but I like the fold flat seats including front passenger seat.

Safety & braking

I like the strong roof strength and crush test results. Braking is smooth. I think the coolest feature is the cornering lights which take advantage of the fog light's wide focus to the sides of the road.

Powertrain performance

Very good. Driving in the mountains, I like the high torque at only 1700 RPM which makes the engine feel like a bigger engine. New transmission is smoother accelerating than last years model. Turbo lag takes a little adjusting to but still lots of fun.

Why Not the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Dealer practices

Had to order my Tiguan from the factory because VW dealers in my area don't stock many 4motions. Had to wait for an opening at the factory to order the car. Dealer experience was actually good however, and car was worth the 3 month wait.
