2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Tiguan SE AWD by njlees

Materials & workmanship
Everything is put together tightly and materials are high quality.
Powertrain performance
Smooth and powerful enough as far as CUVs go. Engine and transmission plus awd work well together.
Quietness
Very quiet inside.
Discounts & incentives
Large discount made price competitive with v6 rav4 else I would not have been driving this vehicle.
Handling
Very agile. Best of the CUVs under $35k at the time. Electric Steering is a little light but you get used to it.
Dealer practices
Service has been a big problem at the dealership I purchased the vehicle at. Had in for second oil change under the free service plan and they broke something. A day later all the oil came out of the car and the engine seized before I could safely pull over on the interstate. Something cracked or fell off around the oil filter. Dealer replaced the engine but they handled the whole thing with no trail and refused to acknowledge they made a mistake.
Price or payments
Without large discounts, this vehicle is pricey.
Fuel economy
Bring the tdi diesel to the US and problem solved.
Cargo capacity
Cargo capacity is small so if you need large capacity look elsewhere.
The great handling and smooth and powerful power train was unique. The v6 rav4 was more powerful, but the chassis could not handle the power. The CRV had the handling, but not the power. In addition the interior of the tiguan was way beyond the quality of the other vehicles. It was more expensive, but deep dealer discounts brought the price down to make it the clear winner for me.
