Good looking car, but lower price betrays flaws A member from California, United States Best Reason to Buy the Volvo S60: Exterior styling Gorgeous exterior styling and aerodynamic looks. Aggressive front and elegant rear. The car looks great from all angles. High quality body. The doors close with a satisfactory thump. However, the front grill is feels cheap and is very flimsy. Best Reason Not to Buy the Volvo S60: Materials & workmanship The internal workmanship is where I have many issues with the car. The shifter feels cheap, as does the center console on which the shifter sits. The brushed aluminum center console that houses the A/C controls (among other controls) looks great, but is very fragile. Drop anything on it and it will ding and scratch. The aluminum metal trim on the steering wheel and center console is cheap and poorly made. It will ding and scratch very easily. The metal trim on the steering wheel will flake. The metal flakes are very sharp and can cut you. I had this part replaced four times on my car. A Safe, Fun to Drive Car A member from Pennsylvania, United States Best Reason to Buy the Volvo S60: Safety & braking Volvo has been always been a safety leader. The S60 scored highest on the recent offset front end collisions.rnrnMy car has safety technology that will prevent me from rear ending someone or hitting a pedestrian if I am going 31 MPH or less. Fortunately I've never had to use that feature. I also get a warning and my brakes are prepared for a panic stop if I am traveling more than 31 MPH.rnrnAdaptive cruise control will bring me to a full stop and accelerate again when traffic clears. This does work as advertised.rnrnBlind spot monitoring can give false alerts, but generally works well. Lane departure warning and park alert can be annoying, but can be turned off as can the other systems. Wife and I purchased based on experiences of 2 family members who had good experiences. We have been stranded once (in driveway) due to faulty shift lock mechanism, otherwise have put 151,000 essentially pain-free KM on this. Best Reason Not to Buy the Volvo S60: Rear seat room & comfort Minimal rear seat leg room. Our kids are 9 & 8 - we are having to look for a replacement car as they are getting too big for this one. To offset the front seats are as comfortable as I have experienced in a car. Now considering an S80 or XC70. A head-turner, people know this isn't your average sedan, ricer, or Volvo. Exterior says luxury and brute all in one package. Best Reason Not to Buy the Volvo S60: Interior styling Stock iPod compatibility is poor. The stereo will not allow the user to select playlists. The iPod connection will not charge the iPod. An aftermarket iPod interface is recommended. Best Reason Not to Buy the Volvo S60: Rear seat room & comfort Rear seat room is lacking. Yes, three people will fit, but they won't be very comfortable. Also, if the driver is tall, it's hard to fit anyone in the rear seat behind the driver at all.
