TrueDelta Reviews the Reliability And Durability of the Kia Soul

Kia Soul Reliability And Durability: Pros
YearComment
2017 Like other Kias and Hyundais, the Soul has a 5/60 basic warranty and (for the original purchaser) a 10/100 powertrain warranty. Worth noting: Kia and Hyundai tend to interpret the coverage of their warranties more strictly than other auto makers do. Some items, such as interior trim, are warrantied for less than five years. Once out of warranty, the Soul is much less likely to require repairs than the Countryman. While we don't have stats for the new Countryman--it only recently reached dealers--we do have some data for the closely related third-generation Mini Hardtop. The current Hardtop has required repairs just a little more than the average car, an improvement over previous generations. But the second-generation Kia Soul has required repairs less than half as often as the average car. (The first-generation Soul has been about average recently.) full 2017 Kia Soul review

2010 4dr Hatch 142-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
When we bought this car in 2010, we were aware of Kia's dim reputation in the 1990s and their better -- but still "cheap" -- reputation in the 2000s. But it seemed like Kia was advancing quickly. And so they have. In the five-plus years we've owned the car, it has been recalled four times. None of the recalls stranded us and one even was proactive (added rustproofing). The car has received routine maintenance. And that's been about it. It has been quite troublefree. And, so far, it doesn't look like we'll need to claim on the one remaining warranty -- the anti-corrosion warranty. It's only six years, but the car still looks good. All in all, we gambled on getting a bargain and we won. We definitely would consider another Kia for our next vehicle. full 2010 Kia Soul review

5Star crash, 4Star rollover and a 10year 100k warrenty. Hyundai did wonders for KIA when they merged. The fit and finish have really come around in the past few years and greatly in the 2010 linups for both companies. Very responsive to customer needs. full 2010 Kia Soul review
