What Our Members Are Saying about the Real Gas Mileage of the 2003 Ford Focus

2003 Ford Focus Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2004 4dr Sedan 145-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed manual FWD
While not as high as my 1986 Mazda 626 at 34mpg the Mazda was not as quick. So I am quite satisfied with the 32-33mpg I currently get. see full Ford Focus review
2004 2dr Hatch 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Fuel economy, although not great is good. Helps my daughter on a limited budget. see full Ford Focus review
2004 4dr Sedan 145-horsepower 2.3L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
I could go for days without filling it up if I drove like a normal person. I put almost 200 miles on it in two weeks so that good fuel economy helped. see full Ford Focus review
2003 4dr Wagon 145-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Overall, 30MPG is very reasonable. see full Ford Focus review
2003 4dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
25 to 35 MPG see full Ford Focus review
2002 2dr Hatch 130-horsepower 2.0L I4

fairly good see full Ford Focus review
2003 Ford Focus Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2004 2dr Hatch 145-horsepower 2.3L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Lower than expected (23-24mpg avg), but performance makes up for it. see full Ford Focus review
2003 4dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
Suburban fuel economy is acceptable, at nearly 30 mpg. But on the highway, with the engine spinning well over 3,000 rpm, fuel economy also struggles to crack 30. Many much larger, much more powerful cars achieve better highway fuel economy. Some owners have fitted the fifth gear from the related transmission in the Mazda6 to get more of an overdrive. see full Ford Focus review
2003 4dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
I wasn't personally very focused on fuel economy, but the SVT wasn't very fuel efficient for a fairly light car with a normally-aspirated 2.0-liter engine. The original EPA ratings were 21 mpg city, 25 mpg highway. Using the 2008+ adjustments, they'd be 18/23 if the car was available today. see full Ford Focus review
2003 2dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
It is very heavy on fuel. Around 11.5l/100km in town and 7.0 to 8.0l/100km on the open road. see full Ford Focus review
