Reviewed: 2004 Buick Rainier

4dr SUV 290-horsepower 5.3L V8 4-speed automatic AWD

Why the 2004 Buick Rainier?

Price or payments

Used Rainiers and other GMT360 vehicles (Trailblazer, Envoy, 9-7X, Bravada, Ascender) are bargains on the used market.

Feature availability

The Rainier has several upscale features including heated seats, 6-disc changer, sunroof, air-ride suspension, standard Class 3 trailer hitch, all wheel drive, and available V8 power.

Powertrain performance

The V8 pulls very well and is very quiet while doing it. The AWD is simple to use and has proven itself very capable in deep snow and slick streets.

Safety & braking

Side airbags are available to complement the standard front bags, ABS, and good crash test numbers. Brake pedal feel is firm without being touchy and the brakes stop the vehicle quickly and surely.

Why Not the 2004 Buick Rainier?

Fuel economy

An AWD V8 body on frame SUV/truck like the Rainier will be a gas pig. Mid to high teens are all you should expect. The benefit of poor gas mileage is strong towing performance.
