Interestingly, when torn down to the head covers, every intake valve was in spec, requiring no adjustment. On the other hand, every exhaust valve was so tight the correct feeler gauge couldn't wiggle into or even feel the difference between valve stem tip and tappet. I always associated valve train noise with excessive lash, but that wasn't the case here.
