Reviewed: 2006 Jeep Liberty

4dr SUV turbocharged 160hp 2.8L I4 Diesel 5-speed automatic 4WD w/low range

Why the 2006 Jeep Liberty?

Fuel economy

I did a GDE Hot tune on mine... before it i used to get an average of 25MPG in mixed driving. After the tune my average is ALWAYS over 30! If i would have gotten the ECO tune it would have probably been better! I also got the trans tune! worth every penny

Powertrain performance

Its a diesel so get passed the noise and enjoy the torque and fuel economy!

Reliability & durability

With the hot tune i have over 100 more TQ from stock and over 40HP and boy can you feel that TQ! Great for towing my small RV and it runs up the hills now! 100 more TQ make it feel like a whole new vehicle and 18mpg towing a 5k trailer! Beat that!

Past personal experience

Im a jeep Guy! This is my first diesel one! Cheap to repair and parts galore but i really love my Diesel. When this one goes i will replace it with either a jeep or Mercedes diesel! I am addicted to diesel power!

Insurance cost

My 2006 is cheaper to insure than my 2000. And its safer. ABS, ASR, Rollover mitigation, traction control. It all makes insurance cheap! Less likely to accident itself! And depreciation... mine has over 40k. KBB still puts it close to 20k. It was 25 new!

Why Not the 2006 Jeep Liberty?

Ride smoothness

Its a jeep not a onroad SUV. Hence tradeoffs. It rocks off road but its not so smooth on road.

Quietness

At idle its loud especially when its cold out. But... on the highway you cant tell its a diesel except for no need to downshift to accelerate... just let the TQ carry you!

Audio & nav systems

The nav is terrible my modern standards so beware. Audio is just over average.

Dealer practices

Jeep dealers... UGGGGGG! When they have one of these they know they have a rare car and make you think its a tank and you have to bargain hard to get them to come back to earth! Plus stock dealer parts are ridiculous! Aftermarket helps!

Feature availability

Pretty much none exsistant. Its a jeep thought. I wish i could have kept it simple but even the sport is still "full powered". When they make a wrangler diesel ill be all over it!
