Why the 2002 Lexus RX?

Powertrain performance

Horrible reliability with the transmission. Owned the car since new, and spend top dollar to always stay above and beyond the recommended maintenance. The car was never abused, or used for towing. Regardless, the transmission began acting up at around 120k miles. A fluid service (which isn't actually required according to Lexus) showed us a pan full of metal shavings. I was able to limp the car along for another 2 years, with careful driving, and frequent fluid changes, but at 150k it finally gave up. The replacment transmission cost nearly as much as the market value of the car, so unfortunately, I sent my beautifully maintained, always garaged Lexus, to the scrap yard.

Why Not the 2002 Lexus RX?

Powertrain performance

The transmission is made of glass. Any RX300 with over 150k miles is a ticking time bomb.
