Reviewed: 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

4dr SUV 268-horsepower 3.5L V6 7-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class?

Exterior styling

Avant Garde rather than "quirky" as others have described. On the right day the car exudes "want me buy me love me" to others and is shaped like a wedge (from the side). Appears small but is nearly as big as a GMC Yukon - watch out for parking lot dents

Color choices

Lazurite Blue / Alpine Rain wonderful (nano particle paint technology) as is the Carneol Red. Other colors named for crystal minerals. Black is best for the interior but that mocha works well with both red and blue.

Front seat support & comfort

The STANDARD leather seating surfaces on the 2006 front seats - way better feel than artico leather. The adjustment range to get things just right and the head rest. Very cozy.

Why Not the 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class?

Fuel economy

I would probably choose a diesel next time for efficiency reasons - but the additional premium fuel required in the V6 is negligible once the car is paid for....soon now. Very lively engine too. I foresee a hybrid R class type vehicle after 2011...

Discounts & incentives

(only meant to suggest that the car is pricey and always was ... you pay for what you get).
