Reliable easy maintance low on bells and whistles family suv

I've looked at the Honda crv, the Toyota rav4, Chevy equinox, and the Ford Escape. I have family telling me the Ford Escape is a "throw away" car, and they all are anti imports, but I want a car that will last. I hate shopping for new vehicals. I have had for nine years now a used 1992 Chevy s10 blazer, but it finally has broken more than it is worth fixing. I want it to be more fuel efficient than what I had if possible and I was getting about 18-19 combined highway and city mpg on average. I don't really want power windows or locks, or airbags but I don't think I can get out of it so at least as few of these things as possible. Especially as few airbags as possible. I'd like to keep maintance costs from being super high because we will probably be doing repairs and trying to make it last as long as possible. I hate the Chevy seats and would really like a better seat but not leather. Also it is super hot where we live and I'd like something that cools well into the back seats for the family. I really enjoy driving a family members Ford Focus wagon but they don't make them anymore.
