Reviewed: 2005 Saab 9-2X

4dr Wagon turbocharged 227hp 2.0L H4 4-speed automatic AWD

Why the 2005 Saab 9-2X?

Powertrain performance

Peppy turbo that is plain fun to drive. Easy to pass on highway (or anywhere else). AWD makes snow driving a blast.

Cargo capacity

Carries almost anything I need without SUV styling and performance. Great for my bike and my dog!

Exterior styling

A WRX with a bow-tie. Very recognizable lines but still stays under police radar.

Reliability & durability

Never needed to do anything but normal maintainence. Starts every day and hums along without protest. Paint sucks though and my Saab decal on the front has lost its color.

Handling

Tears up curvy roads, snowy roads, jam-packed highways, etc. I will likely never own a FWD car again. AWD is where its at.

Why Not the 2005 Saab 9-2X?

Quietness

Fairly loud on both wind and road noise while at highway speed. Not terribly annoying but you notice it.

Ride smoothness

Bad roads are definitely felt and heard in this car. This is definitely a product of the tuned springs/shocks but it is pretty rough sometimes. Not a luxury ride.

Feature availability

Major upcharge for Xenon headlights and moonroof is a put-off.
