I guess allot depends on your height. You'll either want a taller cuv or a longer, bigger car.

My Mother in law is just over 5' feet and finds her 2015 Buick Encore the right height. I do like the height as a 6-footer as I found my old old 2013 Encore perfect vehicle as far as egress and ingress. We have an Envision now and find the seat cuchion just being caught over my 34" inseam.

My Mom is in between us in height and finds her Buick LaCrosse just right.

All of these cars offer AWD and longer than mainstream car warranties

You can't buy the LaCrosse for under C $25,000 and you'll have to buy a bottom of the line Encore to stay in your budget, which won't have any advanced safety features and few convenience features.

You need a small or subcompact crossover Toyota is one of the only mainstream brands that will give you the active safety features standard.

The 2018 Toyota CH-R XLE is one of your best bets in your budget at C $24,690. It has so many standard features, such as all the safety features, backup camera, dual auto a/c, leather steering wheel, 7" touchscreen, heated front seats, a spacious interior, driver seat with power lumbar support, 4.2" MID, power heated side mirrors with turn signals. It drives better than most $24k cars drive. It has a quiet interior and a smooth ride. The exterior styling is pretty cool, too. The car automatically brakes if it's about to hit a car or person, steers you back into your lane if you drift out of it, automatic high beams that turn off when another car comes head on, and dynamic radar cruise control that follows the car in front of you. The Encore isn't available with any of these things. The rear seat is small though so check that when you test drive.

I think you get way more for your money with the Toyota CH-R than the Buick Encore. Plus, it drives well like the Encore. Hope this helps.

Brand new LaCrosse are advertised for $24-26K on cars.com

A 2017 Buick Encore can be had for $24,XXX with AWD the CH-R doesn't even offer. That includes 4 year/50,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty. The CH-R only gets 31 mpg highway. We were able to see 39 mpg at 65 mph...with AWD. The Toyota's are entry level cars and when my inlaws drove a used 2016 RAV4 for $22K, they thought it felt cheap and tinny like their rental Nissan Rogue. The Buick's were more solid feeling and drove well than those.

Another option which is a little bigger than the Encore would be the 2017 Buick Envision. The Envision Preferred is advertised for $26,XXX. The Envision has a slightly higher seat height than the Encore. Both are very quiet and smooth driving and you'll find that when you are testing egress and ingress.
