Introduction

Innovative, robust, well built, comfortable vehicle loaded with the latest tech

Reviewed: 2017 Volkswagen Passat (Europe)

4dr Sedan turbocharged 180hp 1.8L I4 7-speed automated manual FWD

Why the 2017 Volkswagen Passat (Europe)?

Handling

Very smooth ride, besides harshness on poor surfaces. The active (dampening) chassis control option is not included on the Australian versions- including this would allow making the rise less harsh on poor surfaces

Exterior styling

Relative standout with the R-line bodykit given the blandness of the Korean car packed freeways here in Australia

Controls and instruments

Loaded with great technology - including active cruise control and and monitoring systems, and the active info display (same as that in the Audi A4). The safety systems - reverse and side monitoring have already saved me from an incident, as has the pedestrian monitoring system. The active info display system is outstanding, with the ability to put the nav maps into the display The car is very relaxing to drive in heavy traffic, by using the ACC system, and auto lane keeping allows 10-20 seconds of hands off wheel when lane markings are good. The DSG is exceptionally smooth and well tuned

Ride smoothness

Why Not the 2017 Volkswagen Passat (Europe)?

Ride smoothness

Harsher ride, as the Active Chassis Control option was not available on the Australian spec 132Tsi
