2002 Mazda Tribute 4dr SUV
200-horsepower 3.0L I4 4-speed automatic FWD
Traded vehicle after receiving $700 quote to fix a radiator leak,
IAC valve stuck closed. Had to bang on it vigorously to get it to open up and let idle air in. Replaced part.
The vehicle was towed in to a Ford dealer. Problem was diagnosed as a plugged rear catalytic converter. They wanted $500+ for a replacement. I shopped around and found one for $90. They installed, it ran OK for 2 weeks. then plugged again Mazda dealer found the front left converter was degrading, plugging the rear. They replaced the bad converter with new under EPA mandated warranty as it was within the 96 month and mileage limit. ok so far
Had to replace all 6 ignition coils and plugs.
One month later the left side converter goes bad again and needs replaced again. this is the 3rd one for this vehicle.
Had a shudder and relatively loud sound when the vehicle shifted up or down at 45 MPH. Service bulletin said changing transmission fluid and refreshing the computer would make the problem go away. It did not.
kept dying at low rpms
This is the 7th breakdown for the same problem. 6 electrical coils have been changed. No more $$ to spend of this horrible vehicle. Will sell as parts car in spring.
CEL. New gas cap. Only 10-15 dollars but they didn't charge us.
The car didn't pass emission test. "Check engine" light turned on only after test. Something was wrong with sensor (have no clue which one).
The timing chain broke and sent little pieces of metal throughout the motor, Full motor had to be replaced.
