2009 2dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4

Quite possibly the most comfortable front seats I have ever sat in. It is as if they were pulled straight from an Audi and placed in the GTI. An added bonus is the heated cloth, which is unusual because usually you need to option cold leather for heat. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review

YearBody/PowertrainComment
2008 2dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.5L I5
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
It works fine for me, but if you have adults that use the rear seat often they may find it a little uncomfortable for long trips. The legroom is decent, but the seats are a bit hard and not all that ergonomic. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Powertrain of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI

2009 Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI Powertrain: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2010 2dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.5L I5
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Even the base 2.5L engine has more than enough power at 170 hp, very good engine torque. Put the auto trans into S mode and the car flies. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
2010 4dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4
6-speed automated manual FWD
The 2.0T (TSI on this model year) has a wide powerband and excellent low-end performance making daily driving a pleasure. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
2010 2dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
A peppy and happy motor, willing to work with you. With next to zero turbo lag and torque all over the powerband this engine can be your best friend when driving to the store and when zipping along a winding road. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
2010 4dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4
6-speed automated manual FWD
The GTI has great performance and handling for its class. It may not be the fastest but it is the best overall package in its class. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
2010 2dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
The Turbo Inline 4 in the GTI is an incredibly smooth and responsive engine with a lot of torque all the way across the power band, always leaving the driver with that added punch and acceleration when needed. A blast to drive! Excellent 6 speed manual. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review

2010 4dr Hatch turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed manual FWD
I love the diesel engine. Its torque is amazing. It pulls strong from 1400rpm to 4500rpm. You never need to downshift to pass on the highway, because at 65mph in 6th gear it's right at the peak torque. The transmission is also smooth and has great gearing for fuel economy and performance. It's doing less than 2000rpm at 70mph, but still accelerates effortlessly. It's also quiet and smooth. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
2010 2dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4
6-speed manual FWD
The 2.0L turbo is a peppy thing in the GTI. The torque curve peaks out early and the lack of really noticeable turbo lag makes for a fairly fun motor, even if it does seem underpowered compared to other hot hatches in the segment. In VW's quest for cabin comfort, there isn't the same engine note you'll hear from other raspy 4-bangers, but the tradeoff is worth it I think. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
2010 4dr Hatch turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4
6-speed automated manual FWD
very good acceleration. I like the easy to use automated manual with paddle shifters. Enought power to push me into the seat bolsters when accelerating and cornering. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review

YearBody/PowertrainComment
2009 2dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.5L I5

Somewhat jerky power curve, huge delay in throttle if stock. Decent power off the line but missing a fun factor. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Tires of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI

2009 Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI Tires: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2010 4dr Hatch turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel
6-speed manual FWD
The regular Continental all season tires are pretty unimpressive. They have reasonable handling and road feel, but are barely better than summer tires when the temperatures drop below 40 degrees. I have been very impressed with my General Altimax Arctic winter tires though. I plan to get a good set of summer performance tires soon, which is what this car should have come with. see full Volkswagen Jetta / Rabbit / GTI review
