2015 2dr Hatch 101-horsepower 1.4L I4

Good fuel economy with manual, but most compacts with auto are more frugal and much faster. see full Fiat 500 review

Fuel economy on 500s in general is excellent. I have found that the engines are really "tight" when brand new. On my first tank (50/50 city/highway) with the Abarth, I couldn't crack 30 MPG. At 4000 miles, I'm now at 38.8 mpg on the exact same route. The other Fiats I have owned exhibited the exact same behavior. As with the other 500s, I expect a further minor improvement in fuel economy, leveling out at about 5000 miles. see full Fiat 500 review
2014 2dr Convertible turbocharged 160hp 1.4L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Considering it's got a big turbo that I can't help but make use of, I still seem to be averaging an odometer-confirmed 30mpg in mixed driving (high speed mountain freeways and congested city). I've had a few flatter road trips creep into 33mpg territory, and a long run of backroad-strafing dip down to 27. Overall, I'm happy with the economy considering just how fun to drive the car really is. see full Fiat 500 review

Cheap to Keep! My Fiat 500 Pop with Manual transmission gets 42.5 mpg recorded on my notebook computer over the first two years of ownership. This includes the first day I got the car from the dealership until I stopped bothering to keep records since the on-board computer mpg calculations are with 5/10ths of my own record keeping. To keep this in perspective, I do little straight highway driving. I prefer using back rural roads when possible (highway driving is SO boring!). A couple times a week I drive 20 miles each way and the trip contains 16 full stops at stop sighs or intersections. The terrain is rolling up and down and on these trips without trying the car gets 42 to 43 mpg. If I work at getting the best mileage, I've gotten over 50mpg. True city stop and go traffic hurts and I rarely get over 31mpg until the road opens up a bit. Pure highway driving at 70 mph brings about 40 mpg and slightly less if I hold near 80 mph (maybe 38 mpg but don't do this often enough to get a real average). My wife drives a Nissan Sentra with the Variable Ratio transmission and drven carefully on the highway it can get 36-37 mpg from a bigger and more comfortalbe car. Yet while the Nissan is a very good automobile, it isn't like my 500 for just fun and smiles. The see full Fiat 500 review
2013 2dr Convertible 101-horsepower 1.4L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
My auto trans Fiat 500c gets 35mpg average over the first year of ownership (done on my computer spreadsheet, not from my head or the car trip compute). I do not do a lot of true city driving (I live in a small town of less than 10,000 folks) nor a lot of true highway driving at high speeds (75-80mph). But when I do go on two or three hour dives (one way) the car does better getting 40mpg. My normal drive one way is 19 to 20 miles with 16 complete stops required (yes, I make full stops not "roll-thru"). On these drives the car computer shows an average of 34-36mpg and that proves to be pretty accurate so I stopped working mpg on a separate spreadsheet. It does take premium fuel so there are better cars for pure mpg than this. But you do get some style for the extra cost. see full Fiat 500 review
2013 2dr Hatch turbocharged 160hp 1.4L I4
5-speed manual FWD
On a longer freeway trip, I averaged about 35 mpg. In most mixed driving (my daily commute is very short, only about 2 miles) I average about 27 mpg. Not bad, especially considering I tend to, um, make the most of that exhaust note. see full Fiat 500 review
2013 2dr Hatch 101-horsepower 1.4L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Fuel economy. I can wring the little thing around all day, up and down hills, revving high etc, and I still have averaged 36mpg over the first 4500 miles. If I drove in a flatland area (Florida) and kept my foot off the gas so much, I could easily get 40+ mpg. see full Fiat 500 review
2013 2dr Hatch 101-horsepower 1.4L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Fuel economy has been excellent with a low of 36.9 and a high of 42.1 MPG with mostly highway driving. Fiat specs the car for 91 octane fuel, although 87 is permitted. I use 93. I have tried most of the major brands and have seen no difference in economy, with the exception of Mobil, which routinely returns a 2MPG improvement over other brands. Not sure why- I had a Hyundai that did the same on BP, so please don't think I am pushing a preference, as I have none, The car is also very sensitive to tire pressure in relation to fuel economy. The factory recommends 38 PSI, 34 rear. I am running 40/36 with no difference in ride quality but slightly improved economy. see full Fiat 500 review
2012 2dr Hatch 101-horsepower 1.4L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
I'm usually in the 32-35 mpg range with a mixture of city and highway driving. I have to push it a bit to keep up with traffic (101 hp engine) which is probably why it's a bit lower. Fill ups are rarely more than $30. see full Fiat 500 review

TrueDelta Reviews the Real Gas Mileage of the Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep Grand Cherokee Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearComment
2014 You won't often see fuel economy among the reasons to buy a Jeep, and I wouldn't have it here without caveats in tow. EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway aren't anything special for a five-passenger vehicle. But they are impressive for a true midsize SUV, especially one that weighs over 5,000 lbs. The gas V6 is rated 17/24 (four mpg lower on each), the similarly torquey V8 14/20. The Touareg TDI manages about the same, 20/29. The gas-powered LR4, even with a supercharged V6 taking the place of a V8: 14/19. In suburban driving the trip computer typically reported averages from 18 to 21, similar to the even larger and heavier Mercedes-Benz GL350. On one run home from my son's school I managed just over 29, but this involved a lot of luck with traffic lights and a very light foot on the throttle. During a small amount of highway driving the trip computer averages were inexplicably no better than in town. Maybe the weather conditions weren't favorable, as I've never fallen so short of an EPA rating before. Worth noting: diesel tends to cost at least as much as premium unleaded gas, and usually costs significantly more. So while mpg improves, fuel cost per mile doesn't improve as much, sometimes not nearly as much. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
Jeep Grand Cherokee Real Gas Mileage: Cons

2007 The #1 reason not to buy the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 could hardly be clearer: even with the engine cruising on only four cylinders, fuel economy is abysmal. The EPA ratings are 12 city, 18 highway (up from 12/16). The trip computer reported between 13 and 14 mpg in casual suburban driving. Go very easy on the gas, and it might crack 15. With a heavy foot, 10 (or worse) happens. (And one reader reports that the trip computer is highly optimistic, and that actual fuel economy is even lower.) see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review

2011 4dr SUV 290-horsepower 3.6L V6

20.6 mpg so far, which is excellent for a 4x4 tow vehicle. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2011 4dr SUV 360-horsepower 5.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
The MDS Hemi is outstanding. I can cruise at 80mph and knock down 19mpg....at the same time, passing and entering a highway is an easy process with the power available. The towing capabilities are a wonderful plus since I do tow occasionally. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review

amazing on the highway. 9.5 l/100 km see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2007 4dr SUV 235-horsepower 4.7L V8

I am fortunate in that I work from home, and do not need my vehicle to commute to work. However, for a six month period I made a 40-mile round trip five days a week, and averaged 15MPG in mixed urban surface/Interstate driving. This is considerably better than the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd/4.7L V8 the truck replaced (13MPG), and I attribute the better performance to the MDS cylinder deactivation. I have observed 22MPG over a 400 mile trip of combined Interstate and rural 2-lane highway travel with speeds ranging from 60-75 MPH. The truck was unloaded at the time and acceleration runs were gentle to maximize fuel economy. The return trip resulted in19MPG performance over the same route. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review

2014 4dr SUV 290-horsepower 3.6L V6
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
Poor fuel economy was expected, so it's not a big complaint. Our V6 4x4 Grand Cherokee is rated at 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. We get about 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Ourair suspension package came with full-time four wheel drive, which probably doesn't help fuel economy. I would like to get at least 20 mpg in the city, but perhaps I will shell out the additional $4500 for the diesel engine next time, or maybe there will eventually be a hybrid option. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2014 4dr SUV 470-horsepower 6.4L V8
8-speed shiftable automatic AWD
Obviously, the fuel economy is poor. You'll have to compare the Jeep SRT with the German equivalents to figure out just how poor, but suffice to say, you'll be getting less than 12 MPG everywhere you go and buying Super Premium Unleaded on every fill. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2010 4dr SUV 357-horsepower 5.7L V8

Its a SUV with a V8. If you need gas mileage numbers look elsewhere. If you need to tow stuff and get to work no matter what the roads are like, your gonna burn some gas. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2007 4dr SUV 235-horsepower 4.7L V8

20mpg at 70 mph is adequate but not great. 14mpg average suburban city driving. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
2007 4dr SUV 235-horsepower 4.7L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range
Fuel economy is abysmal. The 4.7L V-8 engine, only moderately powerful, is far thirstier than the much more powerful 5.7L Hemi option owing to the Hemi's cylinder deactivation. Real-world fuel economy in city driving is 11-13MPG. On longer trips it can occasionally see 20MPG if speeds are kept below 70MPH. The 4.7L drivetrain is a compromise between the V-6 and the Hemi versions in terms of cost, with the added capability of being able to operate on E-85 fuel when properly equipped. You will undoubtedly want to go with the Hemi version instead of the 4.7L if you can afford it, the benefits are more than just the extra power. If you are familiar with the performance of the 4.7L in the older WJ models, prepare to be disappointed by the performance in the 2005-2010 WK models: they weigh 600 pounds more, and you can definitely feel the difference. Do not buy ANY Jeep Grand Cherokee if you are a budget-conscious big city commuter; you have to accept the fuel economy as the trade off for uncompromised traction in poor weather conditions. This machine has a "real" 4 wheel drive system: it's always on, it's always ready to step in when the going gets slippery, and provided the tires are good enough it will plow snow with its front bumper. A V-6 version only gets marginally better fuel economy but with a significant decrease in power. In truth, if you're worried about fuel economy, you should be looking at the car-based Jeep Compass or Patriot models, not the Grand Cherokee. see full Jeep Grand Cherokee review
