Its cramped, but seems about the same as any other car in its size range. It was easier to get in and out of compared to a Mazda 2 and about the same as current generation Prius C. I wouldn't take anyone long distances in the rear, but I didn't expect to. We have a 2009 Prius which is our long distance carry people car. I'm 5' 9" and 185# and of average frame proportions. The seat bolsters are Proportioned for the Asian torso. So, the average-to-large European butt isn't going to appreciate the tight seat bolsters.
