Engine was overheating repeatedly and leaking from the head. The shop agreed to exchange our other car (2001 PT Cruiser) for a replacement engine and installation, since we could not afford to fix either. |

The van had a serious stalling problem that continued to get worse. Also, since changing the engine our mpg dropped from 22 to 13. Finally it stalled and wouldn't start again, so it was towed in. The air control sensor was deemed bad. Problem continued after repair the previous week, but a bit better. It turned out that when the used engine was installed it's air passages were not cleaned, and three wires were damaged (one pinched, two melted). GRRRR. Air flow almost completely blocked. Once this was cleaned the van ran much better and our mpg went from 13 back to 22-23 (former engine when it worked well got this). |
