59520 mi Strange noise appeared while accelerating. Service was due anyway; dealer found reason: Catalytic converter heat shield had rusted and fell apart, causing it to touch the exhaust, thus making the noise. No repair yet; parts ordered in USA.

Th EX-L model has the CM system - Variable Cylinder management. So it cuts off the rear bank of cylinders when the ECO light comes on. Over time, this seems to either freeze up the oil rings on the piston, or cause excessive wear on cylinder walls -- both cause oil consumption. Solution is to install a VCM disabling item -- see ebay -- and then to try and unfreeze the rings by letting soak in seafoam, or similar. Moderate success.
185000 mi

US $1
Still dealing with oil burning issues. 1qt/1000 on average. Installed vcmuzzler, kinda helped.
187000 mi

The check engine light came on again! The VCM stopped working as a result. Traced the issue to a faulty catalytic converter. Had to bite the bullet on this expensive repair. Went with an aftermarket catalytic converter to save some cash.

Oil leak on back side of engine. Traced leak to VTEC spool valve. Leak was on the seam where the two half’s of the part are joined together, not where it attaches to the cylinder head. There is no replacement gasket for this part so I cleaned and reinforced the old gasket with liquid gasket (Hondabond 4). Leaking has stopped, fingers crossed as it’s $300-400 part from Honda.

The vehicle has been using excessive oil, especially when towing. Took it to my mechanic to do a compression test and a leak down test and cylinders 2 and 3 have bad rings... Basically the vehicle needs a new engine ($5000 - $7000 repair bill). The oil was changed every 5000 kms all regular servicing completed and yet the engine failed at relatively low kms for a Honda. I guess it is time to switch to a Toyota.
