The trimmer, cleaner Mazda appears especially athletic from this angle.

The Mazda's interior is sportier, but also emotionally colder, even in ivory/black (not shown).

As much as I like the tan, it clashes a bit with the silver trim.

Well-designed controls, except those on the center stack are a little too much of a reach.

Comfortable driver seat provides some lateral support.

About the most comfortable back seat in the segment (unless you're tall).

You can't get one of these in any other compact hatchback.

A few more cubes than in the Mazda.

Can hold a fairly substantial CostCo run.

Low, flat floor, but a bit of a PITA to fold the seat.

GDI on the engine cover advertises the presence of gasoline direct injection.

Elantra GT engine no longer weak, but not quite strong, either. Could sound better. MPG marginal.
