You do not buy a performance car and expect to get good gas mileage. At a 5 mpg or greater difference from my last car, it is taking some getting used too.

With such a large displaced engine and so much power you will find that you will have so-so mpg if you drive mainly in the city like I do. Especially if you are a "spirited" driver like I tend to be. I am averaging about 14-16mpg 95% city. On the highway its a different story. I have averaged up to 28mpg @ 78mph, I kind of wish I drove more on the highway.

5th gear is short and really infringes on getting decent mileage (15-17 in mixed and 22-23 hwy). Accurate EPA figures but the new 7 speed AT for 2009 really helps.

The car is just not about fuel economy. You pay for performance. I get ~18 in suburb style driving and ~23 on highway but that maybe just me.

With both highway and city driving, I would only average 19 mpg with moderate gas pedal use vs 24 mpg in the c300, which is AWD. One month of strictly city driving with heavy gas pedal use I average only 13mpg... Yikes!

While not terrible, ~20mpg is by no means phenomenal. Relatively comparable cars get ~23-27mpg, but typically also have smaller engines which explains a good portion of the difference.
