2012 Lexus CT 4dr Hatch

98-horsepower 1.8L I4 Hybrid CVT FWD

122500 mi

US $500
Head gasket. Update: taking it to the shop end of May. Head gasket failure at Cylinder #1 (coolant leaked into cylinder). Gasket appears to be made of layered silicon and metal, and silicon portion failed over time. While head out being machined, many other systems updated/replaced, including electric water pump, timing chain, ECM updates (3), and rear oil-filled shocks that were failing.
124000 mi

US $5600
Piston #1 connecting rod broke, crippling engine. Entire short block assembly, previous head repair added to new block. Essentially rebuilt entire engine for a price equivalent to the value of the car. Although obvious in hindsight, at time of head gasket repair there was no indication of scoring or other sign of piston #1 excessive stress/strain.
