4dr Sedan turbocharged 170hp 1.8L I4 5-speed manual FWD
I get right around the EPA estimate of 20 mpg around town. However, I frequently see mid to high 30's on the highway, which is way above the EPA rating!

Good MPG with the 5 speed manual. The turbo only kicks in when you need it (Well, .5 seconds after you need it - turbo lag)

Averaging 21mpg in suburban/highway driving for a long time... not so great. A high-torque engine and heavy chassis requires lots of gallons of premium fuel.

4dr Sedan 270-horsepower 4.0L W8 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD
As an 8 cylinder engine, the overall fuel economy is not as good as the Passat 6 or 4 cylinder versions. Expect, on average, to get 18 mpg city and 22 mpg highway with a mixed of around 19-20mpg. 21 Gallon tank can be quite expensive to fill.

Unlike other fuel economy surveys, TrueDelta's Real-World Gas Mileage Survey includes questions about how and
where a car was driven. So you can get an idea of the Volkswagen Passat's
real-world MPG based on how and where you drive a car.
