SEL has fancier headlights than lesser trims. All have a more aggressive face than the Tiguan. To me, the face of the Taos looks better when not viewed head on.
As with the larger Atlas, there's a look of Jeep Grand Cherokee here. The Tiguan, designed for the European market, has more car-like styling.
I find the design of the Kia Seltos more distinctive and interesting, but preferences will differ. These 19-inch wheels are included and only offered with AWD on the SEL.
Black wheels are optional on the SE, mandatory on the SEL FWD. This vivid blue isn't working for me The top of the front fender flows cleanly into the tops of the doors.
Clean, simple forms and conventional controls--we're clearly entering a VW. A few gray accents keep the interior from seeming like a coal bin. But warm it isn't.
Many people will like that the display doesn't stick up. Plenty of conventional knobs. A little trendier & busier. Display sticks up, better for visibility and vents. Only one HVAC knob.
Plenty of lateral support. Heated and ventilated on the SEL AWD. (SEL FWD pictured.) Plenty of room in the high-mounted rear seat.
Larger cargo area than the class average. Usefully square. An even larger advantage in cargo volume with the seat folded. But the resulting floor isn't level.
