2007 Ford Five Hundred Pros and Cons Member3135 Big one - the inability to manual downshift the 6 speed transmission out of 4/5/6th gears and having to use excessive braking on mountain roads. The one downshift is basically useless even when driving in wintery conditions to slow down for a stop. |

2005 Ford Five Hundred Pros and Cons Member112 Liked the CVT transpmission option. It is extremely smooth and has adequate acceleration for a large car. Some might argue that, but then again, I have no traffic tickets as a result. |

The CVT transmission is extremely smooth and mated with the 200plus horsepower provides acceleration of 0-60mph in about 8 seconds. (actual self test, it has improved since new. was 8.9 sec.) |
