Reviewed: 2009 Pontiac G8

4dr Sedan 361-horsepower 6.0L V8 6-speed shiftable automatic RWD

Why the 2009 Pontiac G8?

Powertrain performance

LS2 variant L76 V8 attached to Corvette derived 6-speed automatic and rear end. Really, what else is there to say? Gobs of power launches this two ton rocket 0 to 60 in 5.1 to 5.4 seconds. Baby it on the highway and you can eek out 24 MPG.

Rear seat room & comfort

Extremely comfortable backseat, although serious hump in the center eliminates almost all leg room for center seat. Four in comfort all day long, large armrest, good visibility forward and to the side. Nice support, split folding seats and cargo passthru

Handling

FE2 is a very balanced suspension. Soaks up bumps and road imperfections but taunt, European feeling when pressed. Limited body roll, squat and dive in breaking. Good communication on the fringes. Extremely well balanced, slight controlable oversteer.

Why Not the 2009 Pontiac G8?

Feature availability

Even for the year it was introduced, the G8 lacked options and features usually found in this class like rear parking assist, camera, navigation, ambient lighting, HIDs, etc. The features are a bit minimialist - if you want luxury look elsewhere.
