TrueDelta Reviews the Seat Room and Comfort of the 2014 Scion FR-S

2014 Scion FR-S Seat Room and Comfort: Cons
YearComment
2013 Unlike a Mazda Miata or Nissan 370Z, the FR-S has a rear seat. But even a driver of middling height will position the front seat just inches away from the rear seat, leaving too little room for a rear passenger's legs. It would help if there was enough space beneath the front seats for the rear passengers' feet, but there isn't. To even carry children in the back, occupants of the front seats must slide forward. The back seat will serve in a pinch, but the FR-S isn't viable for frequent use by four people. The late, lamented Mazda RX-8 was capable of carrying four adults thanks more intelligent packaging. see full Scion FR-S review

Although form-fitting, the seats are incredibly comfortable, even for the big and tall crowd. The car fits like a bespoke suit. The back seat is suitable only for toddlers. see full Scion FR-S review

Again, if your metric includes back seats, forget it. These are only here for insurance purposes. Seriously. see full Scion FR-S review

If you are a larger person walk right by it, i'm only slightly above average (5-11, 190) and just wearing a coat can make for a tight fit. But if you do fit you can drive it for hours no problem. see full Scion FR-S review

TrueDelta Reviews the Powertrain of the 2014 Scion FR-S

2014 Scion FR-S Powertrain: Cons
YearComment
Personally, I found the Scion's peaky 200-horsepower flat-four-cylinder engine sufficient, and noticeably stronger than the four in a Miata. You must rev it over (even well over) 4,000 rpm for thrills, but given the engine's throaty sound at high rpm and the shifter's short, firm throws I was happy to do this. Around town at lower rpm it feels peppy, with the familiar gargle of Subaru's flat fours. But those seeking brute thrust will be much happier elsewhere until Subaru (but not Scion) offers a 280-horsepower turbocharged engine in the car. see full Scion FR-S review

t is still being broken in, so I cannot comment on the power above 4000 rpm. Anyone that has driven a BMW manual transmission will instantly feel at home. The shifter is "springy" yet mechanical in nature. It's shifter is no Miata 5-speed! see full Scion FR-S review
2013 2dr Coupe 200-horsepower 2.0L H4
6-speed manual RWD
This is a powerful, but efficient high output 2.0 liter engine. It is not turbocharged, which maximizes longevity and reliability. Straight line performance is strong but not outstanding. see full Scion FR-S review
2013 2dr Coupe 200-horsepower 2.0L H4

It's not a fast car, it is a quick car. It does however not feel like either it feels slow. Traded a 12' mini cooper s for this, on paper a slower car but felt much faster. When wringing it out you'll wish it had shorter gears, on the highway you'll wish they were taller. The clutch feel is great the shifts are positive, almost gated in feel. ( I drove a manual s-10 forver and fell in love with how sloppy it was, the FR-S is too tight and positive for my tastes.) see full Scion FR-S review
