The Check Engine Light and Stability control dash lights were coming on intermittently. The problem was traced to the brake light switch actuated by the brake pedal. The switch has 2 circuits, one for the brake lights and one for the ABS brake sensors and associated circuits. The switch was intermittent, caused by premature failure of the contact mating surfaces in the switch. This switch had different materials between the contact fingers and the switch plate. Many posts on the internet related to this problem, with many people being charged for multiple repair attempts by dealers. A cash cow for dealers, which I suspect is being abused. $40 switch fixed the problem, once isolated. |
