Original starter release gear would stick causing a grinding noise in very cold winter starts. Replaced the starter with an updated new (not rebuild) starter from Denso, Toyota part number 28100-0T051 or GM part number 19205422 purchased from Amazon and installed by mechanic. Updated starter motor cranks much faster and problem has been solved.
