Entire clutch end was replaced. This is a difficult one to report on as I am not sure how much was a factory defect and how much was a botched repair attempt from a few months ago. Regardless, a factory defect started the problem.

Windshield washer reservoir fell into wheel well, mounting bolt was missing. Either the bolt fell out or was never installed. I am reporting this because it seems to be a common problem.
Apr 2017

Transmission assembly was replaced under warranty. The transmission was never right and now has been replaced entirely. I do not know if there was a single factory defect that led to over three years of problems and several repair trips e.g. should this be viewed as many or just one problem. Regardless, I have owned many cars with manual transmissions and none had problems beyond needing clutches replaced on rare occasions so this wasn't a case of any inexperienced driver abusing the gears. So, unless this transmission is a lemon the problem should be solved.

Subaru sent out an independent company that jump started the vehicle and it worked normally the rest of the day. Unable to start the car. Cranked for long time and would not start. Waited hours - still wouldn't start. Subaru sent out flatbed - driver unable to start car. Car towed to dealer. Next day dealer reported that it started like it was flooded

ignition switch and 3 sets of keys needed to be replaced along with reprograming the car along with all locks being re-keyed. The key had been getting harder and harder to remove over several months and I couldn't figure out why. Dealership said because I had a group of keys dangling from the ignition key and the swinging weight over time caused excessive wear on the lock.

Transmission failed at 87,900 miles, in a 2013 model. I had a window of 15 minutes or about 10 miles from where I noticed the problem to when the car actually gave up. Car was out of warranty and Subaru took care of half of the bill. --------------- UPDATE: A year after the event above, I received a letter from Subaru notifying me that I could be eligible for a refund for the totality I spent fixing the CVT transmission. About three months after that, I had a check from them with the rest of the sum I spent fixing it.

Car would flash ABS & traction control & hill-start warning lights & keep them on, then would not engage drive after next cold-start. Computer would supposedly relate to a blown/mis-firing brake-light fuse.

Trip was for diagnosis of a problem, which I would have had repaired if I'd had time (before leaving on a trip). Car has excessive bounce & vibration (initiating in the steering wheel but it has now spread to the whole car), high tire noise, and will nosedive when braking. Rear passenger side suspension is also apparently sagging. Mechanic informed me that *all* of my struts were bad & slowly leaking - this in spite of having my front passenger strut replaced less than 10,000 miles ago. Will have my struts replaced when I have the funds.
Nov 2017

The intake hose literally separated from the intake on the front grill, and also separated from the engine. Car stalled on road. The attachment screws had either shaken loose and/or were missing. Shop reordered screws, reattached hose to engine, retightened fuel line as well. Not sure why this happened - whether it was excessive engine vibration, or if my previous shop didn't record that they touched my intake line when they replaced my air filter, and then didn't torque the screws/bolts enough.

The car had started indicating a low oil level but checking the dipstick did not indicate a low oil level. As part of routine maintenance visit the dealer said they found a leak that would require taking apart the engine. Estimated repair cost was nearly $4k. Chose not to repair due to age of car. I'll simply add more oil if the low oil light comes on. A factor in that decision is a lack of trust with the dealer, Mike Shaw Subaru in Denver, and car. The engine was disassembled as part of the valve springs recall in 2019 and since then the car has never run as well as it did before. It's approaching 10 years in service and the dealer tells me it has gone beyond its expected useful life.

During scheduled 20,000 mi maintenance, left rear strut was found to be leaking fluid. Replaced as a warranty item. Mechanic said it was likely due to large potholes/poor road conditions. Rear tires had begun making fairly loud, rhythmic noise. Asked mechanic to diagnose. Result was: original tires had plenty of tread left, but they showed signs of cupping & feathering. Since it wasn't a safety issue, rotated to front.
