3300 mi | Knocking noises on cold start/warm up phase of engine. |
10100 mi | Persistent engine knock/piston slap noises. Dealer says normal condition on this model. My 2006 Tacoma with same engine and transmission had none of these noises. |
236-horsepower 4.0L V6 5-speed automatic RWD
37000 mi | Metallic tapping noise coming from engine at idle and under load at very low RPM. They reflashed the ECU. Probably a TSB for running too lean. Noise is gone. |

36000 mi | Noticed engine noise during heavy acceleration during hot weather. A TSB was issued for this problem . ECU was reprogrammed for better ignition performance. |
34000 mi | Loud screeching sound from an accessory belt pulley. Toyota lubed it, and it went away for couple weeks. |
34700 mi | Screeching pulley. The next time I left it all day. They cleaned off the front of the motor from all the lube they sprayed before, then they couldn't locate which idler pulley is making the noise because the water lubed it good enough to stop squeaking. |
8000 mi | Knocking developed after move from WI to FL. Had to use 89 octane gas. Dealer had a TSB about the problem, something about the heat and humidity in FL. ECU re-flash seems to solve it. |
