Intense whine in fifth and sixth gears. Have taken it to the dealer numerous times - including under the CPO warranty for the issue, had them diagnose it as bad tires, wheel bearings, CV joint, bent rim, perfectly normal, then after the CPO warranty expired, it miraculously needs a new DSG transmission despite having reported it while it was under warranty. Estimate for a USED transmission replacement is about $4k. A new one is around $9K, which is about $1000 shy of the current bluebook. After much research, I performed a reset on the controller via VCDS. The cable / software license cost me $300 (bought it with the car from the previous owner). After the first reset, the noise went away. |

In this condition, the transmission will default to second gear and flash a wrench shaped warning light, and will not respond to shift requests until the ignition has been shutoff, car placed in park, then started again. Check Engine light is on. A repair has not been attempted as the USED replacement transmission is over $4000 installed. |
