Intense whine in fifth and sixth gears. Have taken it to the dealer numerous times - including under the CPO warranty for the issue, had them diagnose it as bad tires, wheel bearings, CV joint, bent rim, perfectly normal, then after the CPO warranty expired, it miraculously needs a new DSG transmission despite having reported it while it was under warranty. Estimate for a USED transmission replacement is about $4k. A new one is around $9K, which is about $1000 shy of the current bluebook. After much research, I performed a reset on the controller via VCDS. The cable / software license cost me $300 (bought it with the car from the previous owner). After the first reset, the noise went away.
69000 mi

US $400
Running horribly, constant misfires at lower RPM. OBDII reader indicating cylinder 2 most problematic, but happening on all four. Replaced spark plugs and coils. Issue not resolved. Dealer recommend "intake manifold decarbon and cleaning", quoted $1200. Acquired the parts and tools to do it myself. Took two days. Very difficult disassembly / reassembly (requires replacing injector seals too). The carbon scraping - WITH a media blaster (walnut shell), wire brushes and picks, took nearly a full day. After much research, this is a common issue with this engine due to the direct injection design; Subsequent model years had a fifth fuel injector inside the plastic intake manifold to ensure the backs of the valves get sprayed with fuel/ detergent to slow the build-up.
80140 mi

Got the intake manifold replaced on the car. Fortunately the malfunction was under an extended warranty and didnt cost anything. But if i had to pay for it out of pocket the price would be 1000-1500 dollars. Cleaned the intake manifold from carbon and oil deposits. When intake was replaced was informed that there was excess carbon deposit in the intake manifold.
