23820 mi Full engine failure and replacement due to defective block; metal shavings left over from manufacture clogged oil passages, caused internal connecting rod bearings to fail, which in turn caused severe knocking and, finally, full engine failure. Not subject to recall, though previous model year was. Full warranty coverage, but long repair time due to shortage of engines from manufacturer.

Car was coughing a few times during early morning engine starts. It was coincidentally due for an oil/oil filter change. It was found that the fuel filter was (diesel) fuel filter element was clogged although it only due for change in the next 10000kms. As a precaution, the dealer also check the fuel tank and found water and dirt inside the fuel tank. The dirt also contaminated the fuel pump strainer. Fuel tank and fuel strainer was cleaned - previous fuel tank content (which was full) was discarded. Fuel filter replaced.

The car warning light - "Water in Fuel Tank" illuminated. When it does this, the car goes in safe mode and limp at a maximum of 100km/h and with almost no acceleration. Dealer detached the fuel tank from the car and found evidence of water in the fuel which triggered the warning. The (diesel) fuel tank was thoroughly cleaned. As a precaution, the dealer also replaced the water sensor (in the fuel tank) and the fuel filter.
